mattress topper vs. featherbed?

May 22nd, 2010

I love sleeping at the Hilton on the Hilton Serenity Bed. My mattress is still in good condition, but my husband has a bad back and would love a better sleep. I’ve looked at the hiltontohome website and it talks about featherbeds and mattress toppers. I’m not sure if we need to buy both to make it feel like the Hilton? What is the big difference, how do I know what would work for us?

I bought a memory foam mattress that is too firm, so I want to add a memory foam topper to it.?

May 18th, 2010

The mattress I bought is 11"…. 8" hard foam and 3" memory foam on top. Should I put a 2" or 3" topper on top of the bed? What density should I be looking for?

Will a mattress topper work for me?

May 17th, 2010

I am studying abroad in Prague and mattress that my program has provided me with is horrible: saggy and full of springs that poke through and cause pressure points when I lie down. Anyhow, sleeping on the thing for two months has given me horrible back pain and a whole list of other problems. The program heads told me that they have "no more mattresses".

Because other people in the program got great mattresses, I am going to fight them on this and get them to compensate me for an upgrade. The only question is, what do I get? I need a firm surface to sleep on without pressure points. Will a mattress topper likely do the trick, or will it simply sag if I put it on this bad mattress?

Which mattress topper should I get?

May 16th, 2010

I’ve done some research and I know what I like, but it has come down to these two (I looked at some of the Overstock toppers, but I felt these two will match well for their price as well):

2.0" Visco2 Ventilated Mattress Enhancer:
http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Studio-Ventilated-Mattress-Enhancer/dp/B000LQB246/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=bedbath&qid=1244072551&sr=1-4

or

Sleep Better 2-Inch Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Topper
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A8BU0G/ref=pop

I chose the 2-inch because I like firm beds, so I don’t think the 3-inches would help too much and as far as density goes, I feel like anything over 2 lbs/cubic ft is fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Here are two other mattress toppers my friend suggested:

Visco Memory Foam 2.5 in Mattress Topper

Are they worth anything I should look into?

what mattress topper is the best for the value? ?

May 15th, 2010

I’ve been looking around for a mattress topper and saw the tempsoma one at Sam’s Club for 9…I went online and saw two out of three reviews didn’t like it because it was ‘too hot’. I went to a mattress store to ask, and they didn’t have any toppers, but the guy recommended tempur-pedic. I looked online and see that is 2…which is way too much IMHO for a topper. So, is there a place online that reviews them, or what personal experience do you all have? I’m kind of leaning toward a memory foam type, but if you prefer another kind, please let me know why. Thanks in advance.

What type of mattress topper should I buy?

May 14th, 2010

I’m going to college in the fall and I wanted to know about the types there are out there. I was thinking of buying the "Therapedic™ Memory Touch™ Visco-Tech™ Mattress Topper" but then I saw that there were also the egg crate-like ones and the "Isotonic® Comfort Three-Zone Foam Mattress Topper". Has anyone used these or have any advice?

Here are the links to the products I’m talking about.

Does a foam mattress topper give you the same quality of comfort as an actual foam mattress?

Does a foam topper give you the same quality of comfort as the foam mattress?

With just the topper, you’re still sleeping on springs.
Does it really provide the same high-quality comfort that the real foam mattress provides?

I’m about 6′, 210 lbs and a back sleeper. I also tend to like firmer beds (does that mean I should get a higher density count?) Thanks

Memory Foam Mattress Topper Question?

May 3rd, 2010

I was just wondering how much of a difference there is in sleep comfort between a memory foam mattress topper that is 1.5" versus one that is 4". I found a 1.5" twin memory foam mattress topper at walmart for about and I also found a 4" twin xl memory foam mattress topper at Walmart for about . So I am wondering if it is worth shelling out an extra for an extra 2.5" of memory foam or just going with the 1.5" memory foam mattress topper?

New mattress topper is not very comfortable?

May 2nd, 2010

I just bought a mattress topper off of qvc.com, it’s a sealy posturepedic topper. My very comfortable mattress right now is the same brand, but the mattress topper isn’t very comfortable when I put the topper on my bed to test it out. Of course, my mattress is only 3 1/2 years old and still in great shape. I’ll be using the mattress topper for my bed in my dorm this coming fall for school. Would I need to put it on a bed and wait a few days to see if it would be better? Or just return it and look for something different?

Fleas in mattress topper?

April 30th, 2010

My roommates dog had fleas and she moved out (with the dog) and we are having the apartment sprayed soon, but I seem to be getting bite in my sleep and I’ve just washed all my sheets. Am I going to need to get rid of my mattress topper? Its a memory foam one from Target and it was kinda expensive to just throw away and buy a new one, but I have to get rid of these fleas!?

question about duck feather mattress toppers?

April 30th, 2010

may be its a weird question, but i’m gonna just ask it anyways
i just bought duck feather mattress topper without thinking
so my questions is
since its a duck feather, is it healthy and hygenic?
how long can i use it for?
I’m really curious to see the filling, anyone ever opened one?
Any process of sterilize before they make it as it is?
i layered it with thick camping sleeping bag and my sheet
would that be enough ?

Memory foam mattress with regular foam topper?

April 29th, 2010

I am looking at memory foam beds and have tried the 5.3 lb foam (store). I find it too ‘hard’ for me. Neither my husband or I are heavy and I didn’t event dent the foam. When I tried out the sleep-number bed, I was about a 45 (which is medium soft) but the reviews weren’t that great (lots of problems with air leaks, pumps, etc)

I have a local mattress company that will create any type of mattress I want. I was thinking of getting a 4.0 memory foam with a plush ‘regular foam’ topper. Will this defeat the purpose of the memory foam? I really don’t like the ‘flat’ feel of the memory foam – I prefer a more cushy feeling…. or do you think going with the 5.3 lb (harder) with the regular foam pillowtop would be better.

Again, I don’t think I’ll like sleeping directly on the foam. I guess my question is, – will a buffer – such as a ‘regular’ pillowtop defeat the purpose of the memory foam? From what I gather memory foam is really personal – some people really don’t like it -
I DID try the mattress at the store (several places). Just too hard for me – don’t like the direct memory ‘foam’ feeling. I notice lots of people using featerbeds over memory foam – but they’re too warm. Also people complain about the foam retaining heat.
One more clarification. The ‘topper’ I’m referring to is a "pillowtop" that would be ‘part of the mattress’. It’s not separate.

need help choosing a memory foam mattress topper?

April 27th, 2010

i have felt one that i liked, but when i asked the person who owned it the brand name all he knew was that it was memory foam. the price isnt a matter in this case, it was about 2 or 3 inches thick and it felt like i was laying down on a cloud. is all memory foam the same? are there certain brands that are better than others quality wise? could you pick out about 3 or 4 different toppers and put the links in order from best to worst? thanks.

Has anyone tried this before?

Thanks!
